Edition 2 [9th/10th May ] - Moate & Castledaly Newsletter [http://www.parishofmoate.com/newsletter/edition2.html]

Reflect: Reflect: The message of hope comes across strongly in next Sunday's Liturgy, the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. As we celebrate Christ’s ascension to eternal glory in heaven we pray that one day we will follow to where he has gone. We allow that hope to sustain us in good times and in bad as we journey through life.

Message from Bishop Francis Duffy (First of Three weekend messages)
It is important to listen to all voices, especially minority voices. We may be moved by some of what we hear and we might not agree with everything we hear but it is important to be respectful of different opinions. In our constitution ‘The State pledges itself to guard with special care the institution of Marriage, on which the Family is founded, and to protect it against attack’.(41.3.1) Marriage matters because it is about the unique relationship between a man and a woman. The complementarity of man and woman can give rise to new life. To change the meaning of marriage will undo the uniqueness that marriage represents and that it celebrates. It is important that we reflect before we change the meaning of marriage. Further details at www.meaningofmarriage.ie.

Edition 2 [9th/10th May ] - Moate & Castledaly Newsletter

First Communion: We congratulate the thirty five children who made their First Communion in St. Patrick’s Church on Saturday last. We thank sincerely the teachers who prepared them for the Sacrament and the other teachers and children from St. Brigid’s Primary school who were involved in the choir. Thanks also to Sr. Clare, the organist. We wish the parents the best in helping their children to celebrate and express in their lives the gift of Christ to them in the Eucharist.

Sincere thanks to the Sisters of Mercy for their generosity. With the imminent departure of Sister Clare McNamara from Moate, the Sisters of Mercy have donated the house on the Station Road to the Diocese/Parish/Board of Management of St Brigid’s Primary School for education purposes. This is an extreme act of generosity which reflects the commitment of the Sisters to education which was their priority since their arrival in Moate in 1861. The availability of the house, without any cost, leaves the School Board with space to extend the facilities of the School and provide new opportunities for children into the future. Whatever is provided in the extended situation will give further testimony to the great legacy the Mercy Sisters have given to the town and its people.

Dates For Your Diary
Official opening of the Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park, Sunday next 17th May. The official opening of the Park will be performed by International Rugby Star,Robbie Henshaw at 3pm. The development of the Park reflects vision, imagination, creativity, initiative and enthusiasm by a small group of people who have worked tirelessly over the past two years. The community should be extremely grateful to all involved and our gratitude should be shown in our support for the different fundraising efforts which the Committee are organising to clear the outstanding debt of €100,000.

New Cycle Lane. The New Cycle Lane being developed on the Old Railway Line should be a major asset to Moate and hopefully will open up the town to more tourists in the near future. The expectation is that the Lane will be officially opened in September and the opening ceremony will be performed in Moate. The Moate Action Group which will be coordinating activities in anticipation of the opening is appealing for an all -out effort in preparing the town in terms of making it litter free and more attractive and inviting through floral displays including window boxes and hanging baskets wherever possible. This is a great opportunity to promote the town and to show our pride in what we have to offer to those who would like from time to time to divert off the M.6.
